Reach for the Stars

The Rudolph Walker Foundation REACH & Beyond has taken the REACH off site programme for excluded students, and brought it into secondary schools. Our experienced drama mentors work with groups of students for a term of 2 hour workshops once a week after school presenting a performance at the end of the program. The performance is tailored to the young people, their words thoughts and feelings and the young people can explore issues of concern to them. We offer continued support after the program liaising with local schools, families, and carers.
Classes recognise the power of the performing arts to support young people to work through difficult times using acting as the vehicle to empower, give the young people a voice and build important personal and practical skills.

The RWF program boosts self-esteem, confidence, understanding of Shakespearean literature and context. The content of sessions is relatable and this helps students to work together as a team and find solutions to problems whilst encouraging them to think creatively in order to own the work they do.
“We have a high number of students who find it difficult to engage socially. Students find positive and respectful communication challenging at times because of the SEMH needs.

“For me, an actor’s life is one which keeps you creative, forever developing, growing, flourishing and enriching yourself and others.”
