What is No Privilege Just Words?

Created by Alfie Egembah, a teacher of over 10 years, No Privilege Just Words is a collection of over 20 books that explore race by authors who are Black, Asian and/or have an ethnic minority background.

Project Founder Alfie and NEXUS Project Manager Olivia discussing No Privilege Just Words

What does it aim to do?

Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and the open conversations it sparked in recent years, Alfie aimed to include and inform young people. This project aims to empower children and young people by encouraging access to texts that explore race through a representative collection.

How does it work?

Author Stuart Lawrence at St Anne’s Secondary School

A confirmed collection of books is evaluated and then given to all secondary schools and libraries in Enfield. Alfie, the project founder, hopes that these books will help empower the next generation and encourage them to think about race relations in an informed manner with empathy. The collection is available for educational organisations to order through Pickled Pepper Books.
