Inspiring and mentoring young people from black and ethnic minority backgrounds.
Who are we?
Action for Race Equality (formerly Black Training and Enterprise Group) is a national charity that has been delivering programmes for young Black, Asian, Minority and Mixed heritage people since 1991.
What do we aim to do?
ARE champions fairness, challenges discrimination and pioneers innovative solutions to empower young people through education, employment and enterprise.
Their flagship Route2Success programme, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, is a role model and mentoring programme for young people aged 10-18 from ethnic minority backgrounds.
How?
Routes2Success works closely with young people in schools, youth organisations, pupil referral units (PRUs), young offender institutions (YOIs) and prisons across London.
Their dedicated team of volunteer role-models and mentors lead one-to-one or small groups sessions over a set period of time. These sessions are tailored to support young people in different settings with careers advice, entrepreneurial skills, making positive choices and guidance to overcoming obstacles. Sessions are practical, and help young people find ways to realise their full potential in education and employment, equipping them with tools to manage their social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
