Who are we?
The Social Enterprise Schools Programme.
What do we aim to do?
We work with young people in primary and secondary schools, giving them a real-life experience of creating a social enterprise to tackle a local issue they care about. In doing so, we inspire them to become active citizens and build critical skills for life, learning and work (as outlined by the Skills Builder Framework and Gatsby Benchmarks).
Over the years, young people have tackled a range of social and environmental issues they feel passionately about, including sustainable fashion, electronic waste, the cost of living and period poverty.
How do we work?
Our programme takes place over a school year, with an initial inspiration workshop taking place in the autumn term, followed by a Dragons’ Den and Awards ceremony later in the year.
Social Enterprise Schools is facilitated by real-life social entrepreneurs, who are experts at working with young people and can help light the initial spark on their own social entrepreneurship.
Every year, we partner with The Big Issue to share some of the most exciting social enterprise ideas created by our participants.
