An award-winning charity which supports young people
Who are we?
United Borders is an award-winning charity which works within the community to support young people who are marginalised from mainstream opportunities. Taking a holistic, person-centred, and trauma-responsive approach, our work focuses on empowering young people, helping them to understand the impact past and current experiences have had on their wellbeing and identifying how they can transform their own opportunities.
Founded in 2017, United Borders is a collective of experienced mentors, youth workers, educators, artists and music producers who are driven by a desire and passion to transform opportunities for young people most affected by issues relating to street crime, gang activity and social exclusion. We provide high impact trauma-responsive mentoring, music therapy, experiences of music production, pathways into creative industries and employment, physical training and education about knife-crime and staying safe.
Our full range of services are delivered on a bespoke double-decker bus, fully kitted out with music production studio and multi-use learning spaces. We also deliver aspects of our work through outreach with partner organisations, to reach and support more young people and their families.
With Covid 19 impacting us all, United Borders have been proactive, restructuring our course, delivering our music mentoring course online.
Isolation is impacting Young People particularly hard, mentoring online is supporting our Young Peoples mental health by connecting them to mentors who are ready to speak and assist our Young People during these challenging times.
What do we aim to do?
Use the arts as a tool for social engagement in all aspects of society, in schools, community and theatre venues.
Provide programmes that enable disadvantaged adults and children to participate in the arts.
Develop productions that explore social issues, raise awareness and enable people to engage in the process of change.
Create pathways to employment in the arts for disabled people and those not traditionally involved in the arts.
Provide training for disabled artists, professionals and carers, arts and community organisations and companies.
